Worship at Central Presbyterian Church

“Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” Psalm 100: 1-3

Worship at Central Presbyterian Church is designed to praise and honor God joyfully, acknowledge God’s presence in the world, and offer ourselves to God while meeting the spiritual needs of the variety of those who attend our services.

The 11:00 a.m. Sunday service is the cornerstone of our worship services, featuring the traditional Presbyterian liturgy, scripture, prayers and pastoral message enhanced by the music of the Chancel Choir, Jubilate Ringers, the pipe organ, grand piano and special instrumentalists. There are several special worship services throughout the year following the seasons of the Christian year (or liturgical calendar) which reflect the life of Christ and the events of salvation history.

All ages are welcomed and encouraged to take part in worship. Most Sunday’s, Children’s Church is offered as an alternative for children 3rd grade and under. Nursery service is available for newborns and preschoolers.

Worship is structured around the six elements of Christian worship as defined by the Presbyterian Book of Order:

  • Prayer
  • Reading and Proclaiming Scripture
  • The Sacrament of Baptism
  • The Sacrament of The Lord’s Supper
  • Self-Offering
  • Relating To Each Other and To The World

The Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism, the public profession of faith made in the presence of the people of God, unites us with Jesus Christ and initiates us into the church community.  This sacrament is administered to infants upon the request of parents who are members, and to unbaptized adults and youth wishing to become members.

The Sacrament of Holy Communion

The Sacrament of Holy Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper, is celebrated during morning worship on the first Sunday of each month.  Communion is also offered during selected special celebrations such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve.

Communion can also be arranged for shut-ins and those unable to attend the church service.  The pastor and an elder provide this service monthly.
