Operation Christmas Child

October 18, 2015–

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to spread God’s love to children around the world through Operation Christmas Child. Through Operation Christmas Child children receive shoe boxes filled with goodies and learn about God’s love for them. National Collection Week is November 16-23- only about 1 month away! Please start gathering the following items for this event:

What Goes in My Shoebox?

  • Plastic box or shoe box- the plastic storage containers are helpful because these can be used for daily activities throughout the year i.e. bathing, getting water/food. These can be found at dollar stores and Big Lots for cheap.
  • bar soap
  • washcloth
  • small toys ex. balls with pump, dolls, stuffed toys, cars, trucks, musical instruments, outfits, shoes, school supplies

“Wow” Item:
Delight a kid! Start with a medium to large item that will capture the child’s attention the instant he or she opens the box.

Ideas include: Soccer ball with pump, stuffed animal, toys (puppets, trucks, etc.), Doll (baby, Barbie, etc.), musical instrument, outfit, shoes

Other Suggestions:

Hard Candy: While you’re buying candy for Halloween, grab an extra bag of individually wrapped hard candy 🙂

Toys: Include items that children will immediately embrace such as toy cars, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries), etc.

School Supplies: pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

***Non-liquid Hygiene Items: toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, washcloths, etc. *** please include these in each box-these are a necessity!***

Accessories: T-shirts, socks, hats, sunglasses, hair clips, jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries), etc.

Crafts: Make your own items such as hair bows, finger puppets, and friendship bracelets

A Personal Note: You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. If you include your name and address, the child may be able to write back.

Used or damaged items, war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figurines; chocolate or food; out of date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins’ breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

Shipping Costs: Each box costs $7 to ship, so if you would like to donate towards shipping, please make the check out to CPC, and write OCC in the memo line.

For more information visit the website at:

We would like our children to pack shoeboxes during one WNF, so if you would like to donate items or shoe/storage boxes rather than pack a box yourself, look for boxes on the stage in the undercroft to place items in. We will let you know in a future email of the specific date the donations are due.

Last year our church donated 96 boxes! Let’s break that record and send at least 100 this year!

Please be looking for more information as it gets closer to collection time.
