Giving Opportunities through CPC
November 13, 2015–
GIVING OPPORTUNITIES DURING ADVENT AT CENTRAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Giving is part of what we do with gratitude and in response to God’s great love for us. During this Season of Advent at CPC here are four ways in which you can give to others. Many in our congregation are looking for ways to “give back” during the Advent season, so we want you to know what opportunities are available at CPC. You have the opportunity to make a difference right here in our own congregation and around the world.
CENTRAL PRESBYTERIAN KIDS – COLLEGE KID FINAL EXAM CARE PACKAGES
We will be mailing care packages out to all 18 of CPC’s college kids to help them make it through finals! That means we need 18 of the same type items donated for the boxes. (examples – individual packages of goldfish, cheese crackers, mac and cheese, gum, candy bars, pop tarts, Starbuck /Sonic gift cards, etc.) No liquid items please. There will be a box set-up in the undercroft marked “College Kids Care Packages”. Please drop off items to be included in the care packages on or before Sunday, November 29th. Letitia Rutan will put the boxes together and get in the mail the week of November 30th.
WAXAHACHIE COMMUNITY KIDS – NIGHT OF WONDER
We are excited to partner with Mission75165. Mission75165 is working with counselors at all 13 WISD campus to identify families in need of help with Christmas gifts and dinner. These are kids that the counselors KNOW will not have gifts on Christmas morning if someone does not step in to help. Our Church has committed to sponsor 25 kids at Marvin elementary school. We need volunteers to sponsor a child as well as help the night of the event, December 15.
WAXAHACHIE COMMUNITY KIDS – CHRISTMAS WITH DIGNITY by COMMON GROUND MINISTRIES
We will be collecting new toys to donate to CGM. CGM will then price the toys at a drastically reduced price and offer them to purchase to parents of the children who attend CGM. This program allows parents to buy gifts for their children for Christmas at prices that they can afford. A box will be located on the stage in the undercroft for all CPC donations. The deadline for contributing is December 11th. The toys will be picked up and delivered to CGM to prepare for the store. The store will be open Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9-2. Volunteers are needed for pricing on Dec 11 and to help run with the store.
WORLD WIDE KIDS – OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
OCC is part of Samaritans Purse. We have participated in this project for several years and annually contribute around 100 shoe boxes. These boxes are full to the brim with necessities “soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.” and fun stuff “candy, toys, balls, flashlights, etc.” Each child will receive a booklet in his/her own language sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Many times the child who receives this box has NEVER received a gift before. You have the opportunity to make your own box, donate items to put in a box or make a monetary contribution to assist with making boxes and shipping. The boxes will be blessed in the morning worship service on November 22. Deadline is November 22, 2015.
This just really scratches the surface on the needs in our own community and around the world. I look forward to the day when all children’s needs are met. But unfortunately, right now that is not the world we live in. But we do live in a very caring and compassionate world, and I see it every Sunday morning at Central Presbyterian Church. If you are able and interested in helping with or learning more about any or all of the above, please contact Annette Goss at email@example.com or 972.935.6246.
